Reader. Mark your calendars for a fun evening filled with entertainment, fellowship and food! Adult Programming Ministry is planning a Big Kids Club event on Saturday, June 7 at 8:00 p.m. We will have a “Movie Night” to be held outside in the pavilion or, if weather is inclement, inside in the Fellowship Hall. Please plan to attend and bring a “finger food” type of snack to share. Every adult is invited and please remember to invite your friends and neighbors for a good old fashioned outdoor movie! College students and new high school graduates are also invited! Childcare will be provided. Adult Programming Ministry is planning a “Christmas in July” Progressive Dinner for Saturday, July 26, 2008. Because of the unpredictable winter weather issues, along with other December commitments, we felt that a “change” from December to July would be nice for our annual Progressive Dinner. We are looking for 3 families to “host” the 3 different meal courses. We need someone to host appetizers, the main course and of course, dessert. If you are interested in being a host, please contact Jennie Wernecke at 877-4067 or the church office at 877-2216. Remember that it will be in the summer and it can be outdoors! Thank you. THE ANNUAL MEETING of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ is June 5-7 in Bloomington. (It's sooo close!) We need both delegates and visitors to attend. Please complete the application in today's bulletin. Anyone from First Church is welcome and encouraged to attend – not just delegates. This is a terrific opportunity to see the UCC Church together, meet people from across the state, experience new kinds of music, worship, ideas and workshops as well as the business of our Conference. If you are interested, please contact Church Office, Pastor Dave or Harold Harmison. First Friday Dinner Out: May 2, 6:30 at Sakura Chinese Buffet. Please let Sandy Harmison know if you are planning on attending. THE ROSES ON THE ALTAR TODAY are in honor of the birth of Kennedy Marie weighing 4 lbs. 1oz and Kaitlyn Mary weighing 4lbs. 11oz. Kennedy and Kaitlyn were born on Wednesday, April 16 in Houston. Parents are Chris and Renée Flenner and First Church grandparents are Mark and Jeanette Flenner. Mark and Jeanette would like to thank all the church members for their prayers through a difficult pregnancy. LADIES: Remember – tomorrow, Monday, April 28, is our Surprise Spring Fling in the Fellowship Hall at 11:30. Lunch (at the nominal cost of $5.00) will be served at 11:30 and will be followed by the surprise – aren’t you curious??? If you haven’t made a reservation let Marilee, Darla, or Sandy Cummings know this a.m. But, if you forget to do so, please join us anyway Monday noon. May 4th at 10:00 a.m. we will have our first Quarterly Financial Update. Plan to join us. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: Information is on the table outside of the church office. Deadline for submitting your Scholarship Application is May 18, 2008. Recipients will be notified by June 15, 2008. Spring Eastern ASSOCIATION Mtg is Sunday, May 4th at St. Paul's UCC in Monee - registration begins at 2:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 3:00 p.m. We'll conclude with supper and be on the road no later than 7:00 p.m. The theme for the meeting is "Can You Hear Us Now?" and will be keynoted by Rev. Dr. Lillian Daniel, Sr. Pastor of First Congregational UCC in Glen Ellyn. She has written a book on testimony which will be the basis of our time together. Registration cost is $20.00 per person. Would you like to attend this meeting? Contact Pastor Dave as soon as possible. Thank you! NEED YOUR RECIPES: Pastoral Care is still collecting recipes for their cookbook. You may submit the recipes by placing them in the Pastoral Care recipe box outside of the office or by emailing them to firstchurchdecatur@sbcglobal.net. If you email the recipes, please include "1st Church Cookbook" in the subject line. The deadline will be sometime later in the spring, so please start submitting your recipes today. If you have any questions you may contact Kay Janvrin, our cookbook editor or Mary Beck, 50th Anniversary committee member.
