First Congregational-Illini Congregational UCC BEGINS FOODS RESOURCE BANK GROWING PROJECT
“A Christian Response to World Hunger”

THANKS TO OUR DONATORS!
  • Headline fungicide for our growing project has been donated by BASF
  • Pioneer Corn seed for our growing project has been donated by Pat McClure Pioneer Seed.
  • Taylorville High School FFA donates vegetable and herb plants from their greenhouse to our growing project.  Church members will take the plants home and bring back the produce to sell to other members for a donation to the project.

Every night 800,000,000 people go to bed hungry somewhere in the world.  Today 25,000 people will die of hunger or hunger related causes.  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

First Congregational-Illini Congregational UCC is sponsoring a Foods Resource Bank growing project.  A church member has donated 5 acres of farmland and will donate the labor and equipment to plant and grow a corn crop.  First Congregational-Illini UCC is responsible for providing the seed, fertilizer, fuel, and other needs for planting the crop.  When the crop is sold, the money realized will be sent to Foods Resource Bank.  The money will be used to buy supplies and provide instruction to create a sustainable food program in a country in the developing world.

The 2008 growing project provided $8,761.04 which will help the Moskito people of Rio Coco in Nicaragua to diversify their crops, to develop new methods of farming in relationship to caring for the environment, to improve nutrition and quality of life and to experience the dignity and pride of feeding themselves and their families.
