Every night 800,000,000 people go to bed hungry somewhere in the world. Today 25,000 people will die of hunger or hunger related causes. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! First Congregational-Illini UCC is sponsoring a Foods Resource Bank growing project. A church member has donated 5 acres of farmland and will donate the labor and equipment to plant and grow a corn crop. First Congregational-Illini UCC is responsible for providing the seed, fertilizer, fuel, and other needs for planting the crop. When the crop is sold, the money realized will be sent to Foods Resource Bank and will be matched by a grant from USAID. This doubles the money we give. The money will be used to buy supplies and provide instruction to create a sustainable food program in a country in the developing world. First Congregational-Illini UCC members have the opportunity to “sponsor an acre” by giving cash to cover the cost of the input expenses of our corn crop. Donation envelopes are on the bulletin boards and in the pews and may be placed in the offering baskets or delivered to the church office.
